It doesn't hurt the water heater it's just it's inside you know like I said it's kind of like a like a bubbling it's getting through that sediment this is the check a pro radio show checker pro Joe has assembled a team of pre-qualified home service contractors to bring you the latest in services products and techniques now here's your host the man with a hard hat and tool belt check a pro Joe we get questions all the time here on check a pro radio and here's one that we see over and over again over the past couple of months I've heard this banging and knocking from my water heater what is going on with this well I've asked Bobby Crowder he is a plumber he's the family plumber actually from surprise AZ to join me here on the program to answer that question Bobby why do we hear the banging and knocking from a water heater I could ask this a lot actually a lot of calls come in for this and it's mainly from like the natural gas water heaters so what's happening is there's a lot of sediment sitting at the bottom so there's a the underneath these water heaters that are actually heating up the bottom tank so it's heating it's trying to heat through that that calcium buildup that you know that sediment buildup so we call it the popcorn effect so it's kind of popping through and that's why you're hearing an echo through the through the water herself what you need to do what there's a good flush on the water heater you know flusher down try to stir up that you know sediment at the bottom see if it's any loose try to get it out as you know as much as you can over time that sediment will harden in a flesh won't do you know much good by just flushing that's where not going to effect is coming from and a follow-up question is it safe to continue running my water heater with all that banging going on it doesn't hurt the water heater it's just it's inside you know like said it's kind of like a like a bubbling it's getting through that sediment so it's not going to destroy or create more damage than it already has you know the sediment shouldn't be in the first place that's when it comes the treatment you need to put in there you know for your home or anything but a lot of manufacturers recommend you know to even keep up the warranty is to flush your water heater once a year by licensed contractor and I would recommend Bobby Crowder the family plumber all of his contact information is in the description of this podcast Bobby thank you so much for joining me today thanks I appreciate it check a pro as your local source for pre-qualified contractors stay tuned for more of the check a pro radio show.
